Children's Book Art

  Some more older work I did for the book series "The league of Elder" by Ren Garcia. This time the job was a children's book. I was working with pre existing characters in the book series. That I got to redesign the characters in my style. As well as the environments. The page layouts, pencils, inks, colors and textures are all done by me in photoshop. 

Here I'll show some of my process from rough to finish. 

Page 1

The establishing shot with the emphasis on the door and the character's reactions. The characters live high up in a big tree that is located on another planet.

For the page 2 final. I realized the character was way too dark. So adding the creamy colored apron nicely framed the foreground character.

I enjoyed working on this piece as I go to use more color variations. As well as show a variation of environments and props.

My initial idea was to show just the characters. But by adding the shadow of the old lady really brings her into the scene. As well as emphasizing the atmosphere of her angerly towering over the other characters.

Here I had everything in the scene point to the little girl. Raising the grandma's arm made for a stronger pose.

Like with the previous scene. I made sure to keep the shadow of the grandma in the scene.

Here I got to show a bit more of the environment outside of the tree house.

Emphasizing a new day and lighter atmosphere as the character returns.

Children's book character design

 Some more older work I did for the book series "The league of Elder" by Ren Garcia. This time the job was a children's book. I was working with pre existing characters in the book series. That I got to redesign in my style.

I designed the old lady character that was supposed to resemble a mole. 

I redesigned the outfit of the little girl character to better suit the story.

Bullet spaceship and fish necklace

More older work I did back in 2018 that I didn't post. This was also work I did for the book series "The league of Elder" by Ren Garcia.

In this piece I was commissioned to design a spaceship that looks like a bullet. It was challenging as the piece was too simple and I had to add some landing gear and wings to make it look like a space ship. 

 

I worked up the background a bit to make for a more interesting scene. 

Below I was tasked with creating a golden fish pendent that looks kind of cartoony. The size variations were upon the client's request. 

Mysterious circle

An older piece I did back in 2018 that I didn't post. This was also work I did for the book series "The league of Elder" by Ren Garcia. This was to show a mysterious council of people in the distance where their identities are unknown. 

 

The environment was supposed to be mysterious and out worldly as well. So I added some blur and distortion. Along with some textures to balance and ground the foreground where the main character is. 

Cathedral Scene

 This scene was an older commission for the book series "The League of Elder" by Ren Garcia. 

This is my process working the scene up with the 1 point perspective and the characters. Starting off rough then gradually building up the details.

 

Starting with a rough flat colors that best represent the scene and mood between the two characters. 

While also playing up the textures and shadows. Since this is a mostly dark scene. 

At the end I ended up with different variations of the scene with clothing details that fit the story, as this scene is from a novel. 

Character design, two sisters

This was another older commission I did for the book series "The League of Elder" by Ren Garcia. In this character design I had to show two very different characters with one being more elegant and the other more casual. As well as the dynamic between them.
